in the Love of Dawie & Yolanda

recently had the priviledge of experiencing and recording a day in the
life of Dawie & Yolanda Hamman of the Strand who feed 90 dogs and
40 cats twice a week in Morkel's Cottage.
Like many good things
in life, it all starts in the kitchen...

Potjie ...and Dawie's Super Doggie Sarmies are prepared for delivery.
The arrival of Dawie &
Yolanda at Morkel's Cottage is immediately spotted by the look-outs
on duty... and the news is sent out: "They are here! - the Greeters
are out!"
(The Greeters were awarded this honourable title in recognition
of their intelligence and persistance by constantly being first on the
scene when Dawie & Yolanda arrive)
Followed
by an ever-growing entourage of tail-waggers, Dawie & Yolanda start
their rounds...
...
sharing their special love and goodwill with residents of all ages -
and shapes...
(we noticed a chicken or two snatching a bit of a
Super Sarmie - blissfully unaware it was made of Boss Dogfood with Chicken...)
Everbody will get a fair
share - but the Rules of Etiquette have to be observed...
...under the strict eye of ex-policeman
Dawie - who is just an old softie underneath it all...

just like Yolanda - chatting here to a one-time very nervous friend,
now living happily in a kennel - just one of the many built and
donated by Annoux Massey of www.gumtree.co.za
and her friends.

to rehome 66 dogs from Morkel's Cottage.

Since
the middle of December 2006, regular Spay Days have been held
and with the help and sponsorship of friends, 100 pets from Morkel's
Cottage have now been sterilized.
